Defiling

Defiling is drawing power from the environment, the life giving energies of the world itself, to fuel ones spells. Athas was not always a dry, hot, wasteland of a planet. Once, in the long ago Verdant Age, the world was lush and green – full of life. It was that bountiful life that fueled the centuries of war, the Defiling Wars. Those secrets have not been lost, even if most have turned their backs on the disgusting practice. To be found a defiler is death – unless one has the power to say otherwise.

The practitioner should keep in mind that no one abides a defiler, with time and effort a Preserver might be able to ease the miasma of hate that follows the use of magic – but a defiler is the enemy of Athas. Players members may be defilers, but your secret is worth your life. If you use defiling – don’t get caught. If you do get caught, kill all witnesses.
